1890 Census Data
Unfortunately, almost all US census data for 1890 was lost in a fire in the National Archives, but the Schuylkill County Historical Society had an 1890 US Federal Census Directory census for that county. (It is now available online.) James J. Haggerty is listed as a road supervisor, and his son James Jr. as a laborer. They live with Mary (James Sr.’s wife), Elizabeth, Eleanora (Ellen), Kathryn, Michael, Hugh, and John (b. 1884 in Kelayres, next to McAdoo). Two sisters drop off the radar here, Mary A. and Margaret Haggerty. They may be live-in servants, may have moved to another area, or may have married or died.
